Figuring out how to combo temples with tech
This is kinda just me running ideas through my head so don’t expect much to make sense here. My two biggest inspirations for art are the futuristic tech-utopia vibes of mostly Y2K stuff and the ancient-feeling aesthetics of temples and ruins. I want Morrowind mixed with Space Channel 5. How do I make a big ritualistic temple space with masks and shrines and incense and weird magic but also have my slick shiny tech?
Some examples I can think of combining the two well are:
Zeno Clash
Final Fantasy X
Star Wars
.hack
Zelda (mostly BOTW and TOTK)
Jing: King of Bandits
So what to do for my own work? Hekate and Strawberry Regrets and the mall stuff all go well together because they’re all modern/futuristic/at least post 60s vibes so they can believably be in the same world. As far as Tagore stuff and my masks go, there’s the option of viewing them from the present - treating them like museum pieces in an archaeological sense or as fictional settings that are in-universe games/comics/books like .hack does it. But I want them to exist in the same space. Final Fantasy and Star Wars are good at having the ancient and the present exist simultaneously. Maybe I just need to juxtapose them without thinking too hard and see how they stand next to each other. Maybe walking from a hekate showroom straight into an old shrine would work. It works in Hong Kong. It works in Tucson even with San Xavier and old adobe neighborhoods. Much to consider…….
